Ross Jenkins "The boys stuck together"

October 26, 2022

City boss Ross Jenkins was full of praise for his side and their ‘never say die’ attitude after Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Taunton Town.

The Hoops were reduced to ten men when Reece Fleet was given a second yellow card but City dug-in and won the game in stoppage time thanks to Joe Iaciofano’s penalty.

After the game, Jenkins spoke to OCFC TV and expressed his delight with how the players responded to going a man down.

“The boys put in a real shift and it was a really good performance.” Jenkins said.

“They’re a tough team to play against, they work their shape really well and get into that low block and they work on cutting passing lanes and filtering us one way. I think we managed to pick that apart sometimes.

“Overall, tonight was going to be a real shift, especially after Saturday’s win against a good Havant team and I haven’t got a bad word to say about the boys. They applied themselves brilliantly and we worked very hard out of possession.

“The boys stuck together, they took charge on the pitch and (after being reduced to ten men) they worked their shape out and knew the personnel and who should go where. We were hard to beat at the end.

“We had Zac McEachran as a holding midfielder at one point and he put in a real shift defensively and that shows the character of our group and that when things are getting hard, everyone sticks together and we dig in!”

Jenkins also decided to hand U23’s attacker Jayden Carbon his debut on Tuesday evening. Carbon becoming the third player from our academy set up to feature in the first-team this season after Latrell Humphrey-Ewers and Gerald Muchechetere.

“He’s been superb and so have Latrell and Gerald. Those boys have really worked hard to be where they are.”

“Jayden’s still learning and you can see on the pitch, but what he’s got is an appetite and that will do and we can work with that.

“As long as he keeps working hard, works for the team and looks after himself then he’ll be ok.”
