Cox wary of complacency ahead of Willand Rovers FA Cup tie.

Oxford City Men’s Manager Sam Cox has said that his side can’t take Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie with Willand Rovers for granted, as the Hoops look to progress to the Third Qualifying Round stage of the competition.

The Hoops were on the wrong end of a ‘cupset’ last season when City were beaten in a Fourth Qualifying Round replay against Scarborough Atheltic.

In Vanarama National League North, City are yet to record a win this season, but a 2-2 draw with high-flying Chorley before the international break was much more like it.

“The boys are raring to go.” Cox told www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk .

“They’ve had time to regroup. Obviously we had a really good performance against Chorley despite not getting the result, which definitely gave the boys a lot of belief.

“We’ve been working in these last ten days to put something together and really hit the ground running this month.

“We know Willand are going to be tough opponents. They’ve done fantastically well to get to this stage of the FA Cup and we know what this competition brings.”

Moreover, the City boss is wary of what complacency can bring.

“It’s anybody’s game, and we’re not going to be complacent. We’re not going to get comfortable and we’re going to take this seriously.

“The club have previously done well in this competition, so we need to make sure we’re playing at a premium.

“It’s happened in my career. The underdog opponent comes to your ground and it’s their game of the season.

“We’re fully aware of that and the boys are experienced enough to know about the challenge ahead and not to take their foot off the gas.

“We want to have a really good month going forward. That starts Saturday and we need all the support that we can get and the boys are looking forward to the opportunity in front of our home fans to get a win.”
