BRAYDEN DANIEL LOOKING FORWARD FA YOUTH CUP CLASH
City youngster previews tough Reading tie.
Oxford City U18’s midfielder Brayden Daniel is hoping his side can cause an upset in tomorrow’s FA Youth Cup First Round tie with Reading (kick-off 7:45pm at the RAW Charging Stadium).
City’s youngsters were drawn the category one academy side, handing the young Hoops one of the toughest ties available at this stage of the competition.
Only a small group of football academies are awarded with Category One status, and this means that City will be coming up against a team that will be full of talent, and have the finest facilities & coaching that you can find in the game.
However, Daniel is hopeful that the Hoops can cause an upset on Tuesday evening at the RAW Charging Stadium.
“They’re a big club to play against.” Said Daniel.
“When we saw the draw, we were excited. They’re a top tier club.
“Our home record this season and last season was top tier, and I think that we can beat anyone at home. Our home pitch is a beautiful surface to play on and the ball zips around nicely.
“Hopefully the fans can get behind us and cheer us on. We want to repay that by making them proud and making the club proud.”
After Reading’s first team were relegated from the Championship last season, their U18’s will partake in the first-round of the Youth Cup for the first time since 2002.
The Royals’ U18’s have bounced back well from defeats from Tottenham Hotspur & Aston Villa’s underage sides with victories over Southampton & Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, City’s youngsters have been in fine form too. Wins in the Hellenic Division Two have catapulted Kevin Squirrell’s side towards the top of the table of an open-age division.
"There’s very good vibes in the changing room, but as soon as we get onto the pitch the mentality will change and we’ll be focused on trying to win.” Brayden continued.
“They play against some really top tier clubs.
“We know some of their players and we know how talented they are, but we’ll just have to counter that and be positive in ourselves.
“It’s a big achievement to make it this far, but it’s great to represent this club in a competition like this, and hopefully we can make it into the second-round.”
