Burley Excited For New Challenge

June 29, 2022

New Hoops signing Andre Burley is ready to start enjoying football again after becoming Oxford City's first new signing of the summer.

After leaving previous club Wycombe Wanderers, the versatile defender has expressed that City's style of football was a big factor on winning his signature.

"When my agent told me that Oxford were interested, I said I’d love to come here and show what I’m about," said Burley.

"The style of play suits me. Last year, I was on loan at Hungerford and I noticed that the team moved the ball around nicely.

"I believe this is a great opportunity for me to get back to playing regularly and enjoying football again.

“I’m looking forward to working hard in pre-season and meeting up with the lads, I can’t wait.

"I know we’re going to have to put in the hard yards but I’m just looking forward to getting going.”

At only 22, Burley is in the infancy of his promising career but the centre-half already has an impressive CV. An international with St Kitts & Nevis, he already has ten caps to his name and is playing a key part in the Caribbean nation's quest for CONCACAF Gold Cup qualification.

Qualifying through his grandmother, the call up to international football grants Burley the chance to play alongside the likes of West Bromwich Albion's Romaine Sawyers & Kidderminster Harriers' Omari Sterling-James as he experiences a totally different environment of football.

“I really enjoy playing for St Kitts.” Burley said.

“My Grandmother's from there, I enjoy going over there to play and making my family proud.”

“Out there it’s so different with the heat, the environment and the way the teams play. The standard of football is very good out there but it’s different tempo wise.

"Players are sharp so if you lose concentration in a game they’ll make you pay. I really enjoy it and hopefully there’s many more caps to come.”
