Oxford City’s superb start to pre-season continued with another emphatic win this afternoon as they again romped to a 9-1 win over King’s Langley at Court Place Farm.
A hat-trick from a trialist, two from Josh Ashby and strikes from Zac McEachran, Josh Parker, Brayden Daniel and another trialist helped City score nine goals at home for a second game in a row and made it an improbable 23 goals in three games this summer.
Sam Cox’s impressive spell in charge continued with another early goal when McEachran flexed his neck muscles to steer home a cross from Alfie Potter after just seven minutes, and it wasn’t long before the second goal came along on 11 minutes as the unplayable McEachran drove forward and played a perfectly-weighted pass to one of seven trialists, who rounded the goalkeeper and tapped the ball past the over-worked to make it 2-0.
The exposed visiting defence was then opened up for a third time after 14 minutes as playmaker Ashby drifted into space to make it 3-0 and effectively end the game as a contest, with a superb finish from Parker on 19 minutes underlining the fact that it was to be a long afternoon for the visitors.
City then created a string of chances, playfully peppering the signage on the Cyper Stand behind the goal for a while without further extending their lead but shortly before the half-time whistle the same impressive trialist, who is expected to complete the paperwork on a permanent deal next week, powered into the box and fired home a low shot to make it 5-0 at the break
King’s Langley briefly threatened a comeback about as likely as one at King’s Landing with a penalty two minutes after the break but the first spark of a flame was snuffed out immediately when another trialist side-footed home at the near post a minute later to make it 6-1 and on 55 the seventh goal came when the impressive trialist completed his hat-trick from close range.
Ashby made it eight from the spot and with half an hour to go the visitors were heading for a very heavy landing indeed when promising youngster Brayden Daniel scored his second goal in successive matches, finishing off a move he had started inside the centre circle before bursting into the box to make it 9-1.
With rolling subs City looked at all of their options, sometimes twice, and that eventually meant they lost momentum but 23 goals in three matches tells a story about how they want to play and their impressive young manager will have been pleased with what he saw. He'll learn plenty more when his side welcome Oxford United to Court Place Farm next Friday evening.
