The Hoops travel to Manchester for a meeting with Curzon Ashton under the lights.
We take a closer look at the match and some of the stats & facts ahead of the clash.
This is the first ever meeting between Oxford City & Curzon Ashton.
Although a meeting between the two was narrowly avoided in 2015/16 when Curzon Ashton’s promotion to National League North meant City moved sideways to National League South.
Both clubs ‘enjoyed’ their best ever league finishes last season – Curzon finished in the top ten of the National League North for the first time. Whilst the Hoops played in Step 1 for the first time, meaning that despite finishing bottom, it was still a best ever league finish.
The Second Round of the FA Cup is the furthest that these two clubs have made it too. However, I’m sure both sets of supporters will want to forget this stage of the competition rapidly.
Both were seconds from reaching the third round before AFC Wimbledon and Notts County scored heartbreaking winners against Curzon and City respectively.
Despite a well known online encyclopaedia returning no results for players who have featured for both clubs, both Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and George Waring in Curzon’s current squad have featured for our neighbours down the road at Oxford United, both playing a handful of EFL games at the Kassam Stadium.
Travelling to Manchester is certainly not new tomorrow for the Hoops.
Packed with football clubs, there's an 8-mile radius from Curzon Ashton which also contains the likes of Droylsdon, Stalybridge Celtic, Hyde and Stockport County, all of which are former opponents of ours from our previous National League North days.
However, history bodes well for City, the Hoops won at each of these clubs in their first stint in the North.
So far, Oxford City are one of seven sides in the top six divisions to draw their first two games this season*:

Championship - Portsmouth FC, Leeds , Hull City
*As of 19/08/2024
