Have we met before? | Last time out against NLN opponents

July 10, 2024

Familiar foes and new faces to meet in 24/25.

Ahead of The National League North fixture release, we're re-visiting some of the teams we have faced in the past.

In the past, Oxford City have teetered on the invisible north/south divide (in terms of league regionalisation), so we're one of very few teams to have experienced both step 2 divisions in non-league.

However, this season will be the first year City will spend in the northern division since the 2014/15 season.

Brackley Town have been familiar opponents both competitively and in friendly matches. Our last competitive fixture with last season's NLN Play-Off Promotion runners-up was in the 2014/15, and Sam Cox will hoping it ends in the same way this season.

The Hoops beat the Saints 5-0 at St James Park in a fiesty game. Goals from Marlon Jackson, Darron Pond, Tom Winters and an Adi Yussuf double helped City to victory in that game. Yussuf also scored twice in the fixture at Court Place Farm as the Hoops secured a league double over next season's closest opponents.

Leamington are another familiar opponent. We've had ten previous meetings with the Brakes, the last of which came on New Year's Day in 2015. Again, that ended in victory for City, a 3-1 victory curtesy of goals from Lewis Wilson and a brace from... Adi Yussuf.

You don't have to look too far back to remember previous encounters with some clubs, though. We met Kidderminster Harriers twice last season in the National League, and we also faced Scarborough Athletic for the first time in the Emirates FA Cup.

However, the teams we have discussed aside, the rest you can count on one hand.

Peterborough Sports were visitors to Court Place Farm in the FA Trophy during the 2020/21 season. The only time we've faced the Turbines. We drew twice with Chorley in the 14/15 season, whereas we've played Hereford once and Chester twice in our 140+ year history.

Next season will see a whole host of new teams visit Court Place Farm and City fans will have the chance to experience new grounds across the north of the country.

However, we'll be looking forward to welcoming back some friendly faces to OX3 too.
