LEWIS COYLE | WE'LL TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME

Andrew Gate • February 6, 2023

After scoring his fourth goal of the season on Saturday, Lewis Coyle accepts his side are having a fine run of form but aren't looking further than the next game.

The midfielder's goal on Saturday secured an impressive 3-1 victory away at Hungerford Town which extended the Hoops' unbeaten start to 2023.

It also means that City have won their last three games in Vanarama National League South and Coyle is very happy to have played a part in making it happen.

"The aim is to never lose a game, and if we can stay in the play-offs we'll be happy but obviously we're going to push to finish as high up the table as we can but we'll just take it one game at a time and see where we end up." Said Coyle.

"The vibe is good in the changing room and everyone is happy and we seem to keep climbing up the table so long may that continue.

"We've shown great character in the last few weeks and it was one of those games where we conceded first but we dug deep. Ash [Josh Ashby] scored a great free-kick just before half-time that gave us confidence going into the second-half, and I think we deserved the win in the end.

"We controlled the second-half and they didn't have too many chances and we're learning that when we do go in front we can manage a game and we've done that well again today."

We've been more accustomed to Coyley curling shots into the top corner in the past, rather than his rather more fortuitous effort at the weekend.

When the winger burst through on goal  his strike was straight at Crusaders' keeper Jed Ward. However, a howler from the 'keeper meant that Coyle was gifted a second attempt to score in front of an open net. A goal that certainly won't win goal of the month, but one he's happy with nonetheless.

"It's always nice to score."

"I think I should've put the shot away earlier to be fair! Josh [Parker] played me in and I was waiting for the ball to settle, but on a pitch like this it's hard but luckily the goalie spilt it and I had an open goal to touch it in.

"The win was more important though and the boys did well and dug deep to get another three points."
