Match Preview: FA Trophy - Oxford City vs St Albans City

Ethan Gough • November 26, 2021

Oxford City take a break from Vanarama National League South action this week to kick off their campaign in the FA Trophy for the 2021/22 season with a home tie against St Albans.

The Hoops come into this fixture off the back of an excellent 2-0 win against Dulwich Hamlet in the league and will no doubt want to continue the momentum and start up a cup run.

Team News

.Josh Ashby has now completed his three-game suspension following a straight red in the 1-1 draw against Chelmsford City, so this means that the central midfielder is available for David Oldfield’s squad come the weekend.

Current Form

Oxford City - W D W D W

St Albans - L L W W W

Manager’s Thoughts

David Oldfied will want to make sure his side stay grounded and are prepared for this difficult cup tie for City.

“It’s another big effort that is needed against another really good team,” said Oldfield.

"It’s a big tournament for us as a club and as a team. We need to make sure that we are ready.”

Key Player

Shaun Jeffers

Jeffers is the Vanarama National League South top scorer this season. The striker is in fine form having scored 16 goals in 13 games in the league. With an average of 1.25 goals a game, Jeffers will no doubt be a threat to the City defence.

The 29-year-old has experience in the EFL, having made appearances in the Championship, League 1 and League 2 in his early playing career. However, Jeffers has been with St Albans for the past 2 seasons and has found the net 31 times in 40 appearances across all competitions making him one of the most dangerous marksmen in the division.
