City continue their Pre-Season preparations at Court Place Farm with a visit from National League side, Sutton United.
Despite falling to relegation from EFL League Two last season, City are aware that Sutton will be another tricky test for them like Friday evening where they were defeated by Oxford United 0-3.
City have still had a positive Pre-Season as a very respectable performance against the Championship side and 23 goals scored in the other previous three will set us up nicely for the tie this evening.
We’re at that stage in Pre-Season where everything ramps up a level or two, including the opposition we face and the competition for a place in the team.
Sutton have also enjoyed some minutes so far this summer where they’ve kept clean sheets and scored plenty in two of their fixtures and lost the other one to National League South side Farnborough, losing 2-1
After recently signing following a spell in the National League at York City, Will Davies is our ‘One To Watch’ for this evening.
Playing as a striker, Will found forced the net to bulge five times in 14 starts, and so a move to a fellow National League club will only do him well.
The 25-year-old began his footballing career at Woodbridge Town then soon departed in the 2018/19 season to now Southern League Premier Central side, Leiston FC.
Born in Suffolk, Will made a move to now National League side Braintree Town in which he scored seven times in 14 matches. Will then decided a transfer to York City was best for him in 2023/24 where he was loaned out to Bromley for a chunk of the campaign, before signing for Sutton in the summer.
A prolific goalscorer who will cause trouble for opponents, keep your eyes out for him!
We go back eight years since the last time we faced The Ambers, where a strike from Tom Bolarinwa in the early stages of the match was enough to give Sutton a 0-1 win.
This match was played at Court Place Farm in the National League South, 15/16 season. Sutton went onto win the league and earn themselves promotion that year
A striker who’ll need no introduction to City fans after having found the net nine times in the National League last season, Olly Sanderson has played for both Sutton United and Oxford City.
Initially, Olly signed on loan from Fulham in the 2022/23 season where he only made six appearances, but scored in four of them to help City earn promotion to the National League for the first time ever.
As that season drew to a close, Olly signed for another spell on loan for the 23/24 season in which he came to life and scored nine times in 23 appearances.
Olly, having gone back to Fulham after this, then signed a deal at Sutton United on a 6 month-loan where he scored four times including a brace against Salford City to give Sutton a 2-1 win.
Welshman Steve Morison was appointed to the Ambers as head coach in January 2024, after moving from Isthmian League Club in Hornchurch a side who were seven points clear at the top of the Premier Division when he left.
He previously spent just under a year as manager of Championship side Cardiff City, steering them clear of the relegation zone in the 2021/22 season.
Sutton's form improved since the arrival of Morison with the club winning four consecutive matches to briefly move out of the drop zone for the first time since August.
However, Sutton unfortunately found themselves relegated on the final game of the season despite earning a point away at MK Dons. As a player, Steve saw himself make nearly 700 senior appearances, half of which were for Millwall in three spells, and score nearly 250 goals.
He also played for Northampton Town, Bishop’s Stortford, Stevenage, for whom he scored the winner in the 2007 FA Trophy final, Norwich City, Leeds United and Shrewsbury Town. He was also capped 20 times by Wales.
