Oxford City Women look to get off to a flying start at home when they welcome Winchester Flyers to Court Place Farm on Sunday (2.00pm).
City started their season with a 1-1 draw on the road at Sholing last weekend and now look to make home form count as they kick off at home for the first time.
Ellie Walecki grabbed City's first goal of the season in that match to earn City a solid point.
Winchester City Flyers had a rare weekend off last weekend, so this will be their first match of the season. There's no doubt that they'll be wanting to start positively, but can City stop them from doing so?
Oxford City will be looking for a repeat of last season's fixture at the club, where the Hoops ran out as 5-1 winners.
“We want to make this a place where fans love to come and watch but away teams hate playing”
Coach Chris Smith told us. “We train hard here all week, and we have to try and make home advantage count: it would be great to see as many people come along and get behind us as possible for the first game in particular.
"We played well last weekend and were a little frustrated not to win, but it was such a positive performance, especially with so many new faces.
"Xiomara Wellington-Faissal, Anna O’Leary, Isobel Bradley, Lucy White, Kitty Crouch, Grace Amos, Emma Donohoe and Gerry Kehayova have all joined and then in the backroom team we have Wayne Tingey as our new Goalkeeping Coach and Sinnita Williams has joined as our physio.
“We have bonded quickly and every single one of us wants to be involved in a winning home start on Sunday.”
Connor Walton's side started the season off with a solid 1-1 draw away to Sholing.
The squad had to dig deep in the match to come away with anything at a solid tier five outfit, but they did just that.
Winchester City are yet to play this season, so they'll be looking to start their campaign off with three points.
