After a brave performance in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday, City return to league action with a difficult trip to Worthing.

The Hoops will have been clocking up the miles recently after a trip to the Fylde Coast, but the games don't get any easier against Worthing who are unbeaten in four games.

City will be buoyed by the return of Alfie Potter and Josh Ashby and Ross Jenkins will have a selection headache after a superb showing in the second-half against Fleetwood.

Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood will be pleased with his sides start to the season, especially after promotion last season. The Rebels sit in eight place in VNLS, one place outside the play-off places and one place ahead of Oxford City.

Worthing have started their first campaign in VNLS well and have asserted themselves as play-off contenders.

The Rebels weren't beaten in their first ten games in the league after impressive wins over Dartford, Welling and St Albans.

Recently, wins have seemed harder to come by after the team went five games without a win. A run which included disappointing defeats to Farnborough and Braintree. However, the side have picked themselves up from their sticky spell and come into the game looking to lift themselves back into the play-offs.

Despite being knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup, City boss Ross Jenkins will take heart from the Hoops' performance against Fleetwood Town.

City went toe-to-toe with their League One counterparts throughout the ninety minutes and alongside an impressive run in VNLS, the Hoops seem to be picking up some momentum in the league.

Wins against Havant & Waterlooville, Taunton and Hungerford have propelled City up the table and a win against Worthing could lift Jenkins' side into the play-off places.

ONE TO WATCH: Lewis White

White signed in the summer from Carshalton Athletic and debuted in Worthing's opening pre-season friendly at home to Three Bridges and scored his first goal for the club in the very next at Brighton & Hove Albion.

White started out as an U18 and U23 player at Championship side Millwall, from where he enjoyed loan spells at National League South sides Concord Rangers and Dulwich Hamlet, before joining the latter permanently upon his release by The Lions.

He moved to Carshalton on a temporary basis in January ‘21 and returned there for good at the end of that campaign before making the leap back to Step Two of the non-league pyramid with the Rebels.

THE GAFFER'S THOUGHTS: ROSS JENKINS

"“From what I’ve seen they’re a good footballing team. I think it will be a good football game as from what I’ve seen they try and play in the right manner.

“I think it’ll come down to who has the most energy and appetite to win the game and hopefully we will and our boys are ready to put Saturday’s result right.”
