MATCH REPORT: Dartford 0-0 Oxford City

Ethan Gough • November 13, 2021

Oxford City extended their unbeaten run in with a solid point away at National League South leaders Dartford after a 0-0 draw.

The Hoops came close on numerous occasions with Harvey Bradbury and Joe Iaciofano coming close but the Hoops had to dig deep in defence with Ben Dudzinski making numerous saves and Zico Asare clearing one effort off the line.

David Oldfield made one change to his starting 11 this afternoon. Harvey Bradbury replaced Elliot Benyon in the squad to lead the line with Joe Iaciofano.

Dartford had the first real chance of the game. Ade Azeez worked well on the right-wing before delivering a crisp ball into the box. The onrushing Dan Roberts met the ball with a bullet header, but his effort whistled past the corner of the upright.

Only four minutes later, City had their own chance. Nana Owusu's corner found the head of Dan Matsuzaka and the Hoops centre back flicked the ball goalwards but drifted inches wide.

Only a minute passed before Zac McEachran pinched a Dartford midfielder's pocket and slipped in Harvey Bradbury. The Hoops number 14 dinked Darts 'keeper Dan Wilks, but the striker could only watch the ball rebound off the post before the ball being cleared off the line to keep the scores level.

The other City frontman, Joe Iaciofano, would get a chance of his own in the 21st minute after squirming through the Dartford bodies in the box. However, the striker couldn’t capitalise on the chance and Wilks could hold onto the ball comfortably.

The last chance of the half went the way of the Darts with Roberts breaking through 1v1. Ben Dudzinski stood big in the City goal and produced a fine save to send both teams neck and neck into the break.

Ten minutes into the second half the home side thought they’d got the opener. Jack Jebb curled a superb effort towards goal which crashed off the bar. The ball then rebounded to Ade Azeez who headed into an empty net. However, the linesman had his flag raised to halt the celebrations at Princes Park.

City then had a flurry of chances over ten minutes. Firstly, Bancroft was slipped in and drilled a shot from a tight angle but Wilks denied the forward.

The second chance fell to  Iaciofano whose shot was cut out by an excellent block from Josh Hill to deny a certain goal from point-blank range.

A loose ball in the Dartford midfield was well capitalised on by Iaciofano who then played Jacob Bancroft in on goal, the second half substitute hit a driven shot across goal and the ball looked destined for the bottom corner only for a last-gasp sliding clearance by a Dartford defender cleared the danger.

Despite the chances in attack, Ben Dudzinski was no spectator in the Hoops net. The shot stopper produced numerous fine saves throughout the second half to maintain the clean sheet. The most notable were late on with the first being an excellent reflex save from point blank range. Minutes later he got down really well to his bottom right to keep a 25 yard free kick from finding the net.

Among those chances was a heroic piece of defending from Asare who, as he has done numerous times already this season, cleared the ball off the line excellently after Dartford's Azeez thought his shot was about to roll into the net.

Some gritty and determined defending from the Hoops secured a solid point at Princes Park and a fourth clean-sheet in five Vanarama National League South games.
