Oxford City Women exited the Women's FA Cup at the final qualifying stage, after they were beaten 5-0 away at a strong Ebbsfleet United side.
The game was always going to be tough against a side that are flying towards the top of the London & South East Regional Premier Division.
Logan O’Shea opened the scoring for the Fleet after 25 minutes. She finished off a well-worked move on the edge of the box after linking up with Maddie Reynolds.
Then, seven minutes later the hosts doubled their lead. Lisa Fulgence the scorer,
However, the Hoops went in search of a way back into the game. Emily Harris’ surging run down the right-wing created the space for her to take aim, but her effort flew over the crossbar.
Just before the interval, United struck a killer blow to secure their passage through to the first round ‘proper’.
Maddison Woodgate the third Fleet scorer.
Half-Time: Ebbsfleet United 3-0 Oxford City
The second-half saw a much more resilient display from City. Harris went close again as Luke Hanshaw’s men tried to find a way back into the tie, but her shot drifted wide of the post.
Although, if there were any doubts that Ebbsfleet wouldn’t progress into the next stage, they were quashed with twenty minutes to go.
Lydia Willis slotted past goalkeeper Holly Jenkins, to make it 4-0.
Two minutes later, Ebbsfleet scored their fifth. This time Amelia Woodgate grabbed her second of the game, finding the net from distance to compound City’s misery.
A difficult night for the Hoops, who will now be able to divert their attention to the Southern Regional Women’s Football League.
Good luck to Ebbsfleet United with the remainder their league campaign and in the First Round of the FA Cup.
