MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 1-1 Chippenham Town

Tom Mallams • December 11, 2021

Oxford City go to the top of the National League South table after a 1-1 draw with Chippenham Town.

Harvey Bradbury scored the goal for the Hoops on the stroke of half-time before Alefe Santos' wonderstrike levelled the scores in the second-half.

The visitors started off the game with a flurry of chances to test Ben Dudzinksi. Alefe Santos' goal bound header was calmly collected by The Hoops number one, but Dudzinski needed a stronger hand to deny Harry Parsons near post effort.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Nana Owusu’s looping cross from the right was met by the head of the onrushing Joe Iaciofano but he saw his header fall just wide of the post.

Zac McEachran extended City’s momentum by threading a ball through to Iaciofano, who cut inside to bend a shot just outside of the bottom corner.

Dudzinski was called into action again just shy of the half hour mark. Parson’s tricky feet around the city defence was finished with a goal bound shot but the City keeper denied the forward to keep the scores level.

Oxford replied with a number of chances to test Will Henry in between the sticks. Most notably, Harvey Bradbury’s effort which was foiled by a last ditch block from Chippenham’s defence, after a cut back from Nana Owusu.

However, the Hoops striking partnership would break the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. Iaciofano’s pin-point ball across the six-yard box was poked home by Bradbury to give City the lead going into the break.

Half-Time: Oxford City 1 – 0 Chippenham Town

After a tight first 10 minutes on the return to the pitch, Chippenham levelled the scores. A long-range strike by Santos sailed into the top-left corner of the Hoops net, leaving Dudzinski no chance. If any strike was to stop City's five-game streak without conceding, you cannot argue with that effort.

The Hoops were given a golden chance to take the lead as the referee awarded a penalty, following a challenge on Iaciofano after the forward squeezed himself into the box. However, Henry denied Josh Ashby’s spot-kick by making a superb diving save to his right to keep the scores level.

With 10 minutes left, Jack Davies tried his effort on goal with a right footed volley from the edge of the box, but the defender watched as the ball flew wide of the post.

City now rise to the top of the National League South table and turn their attention to Tuesday night's match against Dorking Wanderers where Daniel Oldfield looks to continue the push for promotion.
