MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 1-1 Plymouth Parkway
A late Canice Carroll header salvaged a replay for Oxford City in a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Parkway in the Third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Despite a barrage of chances, Parkway thought they’d be heading into the fourth qualifying round when Jack Crago’s thunderbolt found the net. However, Carroll’s header means that the Hoops are still in the hat for the next round.
Ross Jenkins named an unchanged side from the impressive point against league leaders Ebbsfleet United. Zac McEachran returned to the squad, albeit on the bench.
The visitors started brightly and if it wasn’t for Ben Dudzinski’s super save to deny Rio Garside, they could’ve had an early lead.
Despite that, the Hoops grew into the contest and started impressing with numerous chances. Aaron Williams-Bushell dragged a shot wide from inside the box, whereas Parkway ‘keeper Kyle Moore made an outstanding save to deny Olly Sanderson from tapping in a low cross.
The chances kept coming but the scoreline stayed the same. Sanderson turned provider for Josh Ashby just after the half hour mark but somehow the City midfielder couldn’t turn his shot home from inside the box.
Half-Time: Oxford City 0-0 Plymouth Parkway
The game turned into more of a battle after the interval, with Parkway waiting patiently to break and play on the counter. Tom Harrison had to be at his best to track back and execute a perfectly timed challenge to deny Ben Seymour from having a shot on goal.
Visiting goalkeeper Moore was proving to be a thorn in City’s side, denying the Hoops numerous times. Five minutes after the hour mark he did it again, outdoing his previous saves with a superb reflex stop from point-blank range to deny Klaidi Lolos steering home from inside the six-yard box.
It was the same old story for City who couldn’t find the game's opener. However, that very goal came eight minutes from time. Jack Crago unleashed a thunderous shot from 25-yards out and Dudzinski could do nothing to stop it from finding the top corner. Delirium for the visitors who thought they had secured a scalp in the cup.
However, City fought back, eventually finding a well deserved goal in the final minute. Canice Carroll rose highest to loop a header over the impressive Moore and into the corner of the net. A lifeline in the competition for the Hoops.
City will now travel to Devon on Tuesday night for the replay, with a place in the fourth qualifying round up for grabs.
