Oxford City recorded a convincing victory to round off their 2024 home campaign in style, after they beat Spennymoor Town 3-0 at the MGroup Stadium.
Coming into the game, the visitors were unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, but that run was ended by a superb City side who dominated from the first whistle.
The relentless Josh Parker gave the Hoops the lead on fifteen minutes, after he latched onto a beautiful ball by Reece Fleet to beat the offside trap.
Town 'keeper Brad James was caught in no-mans land and Parker produced a tidy finish to slot the ball under the shot-stopper to make it 1-0 after an early spell of dominance.
In truth, it was a game of few chances, but when chances were created they fell to the team in blue and white.
Moreover, they took them.
Just before the interval, the Hoops doubled their lead through Alfie Potter. A well-worked team move ended with Zac McEachran crossing to the back post where Potter remained undetected to head home.
After the break, we were expecting a different Town side to emerge, and Manager Graeme Lee made a change to try and turn the tide.
However, normal service was resumed when Reece Fleet made sure all three points were staying in Oxfordshire.
A corner wasn't defended well enough by the visitors and Fleet powered home a fierce strike to beat James inside the box. The Spennymoor defence did their best to block the shot off the line, but it was simply too powerful.
From then on, in truth, the game petered out.
City looked dangerous with every attack, and Kai McKenzie-Lyle between the sticks was rarely troubled. The closest Spennymoor came to scoring was in the dying minutes when Rob Ramshaw's fierce volley stung the palms of Mckenzie-Lyle.
It was a super win for City, who now go into Boxing Day's clash away at Rushall Olympic with a seven-point gap between themselves and the dreaded drop zone.
Perhaps even more pleasing is the fact that over 1,000 fans packed into the MGroup Stadium to witness a very good victory and performance.
