MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 3-3 Bath City

September 25, 2022

Oxford City were forced to settle with a point as Bath City came back from three goals down to earn a draw at the RAW Charging Stadium.

Josh Parker’s first two goals for the club, with a Klaidi Lolos penalty, saw the Hoops lead 3-0 at the break, however, the visitors stuck three times in eight minutes in the second period to earn what looked to be an unlikely point.

City got off to a great start, and lead within 9 minutes as a Tom Harrison ball over the top found Parker, who took a couple of touches before slotting under Bath keeper Joe Wright.

Things would get better for the Hoops after 20 minutes as Aaron Williams-Bushell’s persistence saw him tripped in the box by Tom Smith, with Lolos making no mistake in sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.

Bath did get a couple of chances through set pieces, with Kieran Parselle heading over and a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the D also not troubling Ben Dudzinski.

But the half was to get better for City as they made it 3-0 with just a couple of minutes to go to the interval.

Following pressure on the right, Bath could only clear a ball as far as Josh Ashby on the edge of the box, his cross found Parker who made no mistake in glancing home for his second goal of the game.

Looking comfortable, the Hoops came out and looked to add to their score - Lolos getting forward twice but only able to find Wright’s gloves.

However, the comeback would begin on the hour mark as a casual clearance saw Bath played in, with Rex Mannings able to shoot outside the box, his shot perhaps taking a slight deflection in finding the bottom corner.

Five minutes later and there was real concern for the Hoops as their visitors got a second, Alex Fletcher was left in a lot of space to run into the box and slot past Dudzinski to reduce the arrears to one.

And parity would follow barely three minutes later, albeit in controversial circumstances.

A cross in from the left struck the arm of Canice Carroll, a couple of yards outside the box, with the Hoops mystified to turn and see the referee pointing to the spot for a Bath penalty.

Cody Cooke made no mistake from the spot, sending Dudzinski the wrong way for his 8th goal of the season.

If there wasn’t enough drama, the game finished with a different referee in the middle as original referee Jamie O’Connor pulled up injured and couldn’t continue.

No more goals would follow with the sides playing out a second successive 3-3 draw.

City have a mid-week assignment coming up with a very difficult visit from Ebbsfleet United, who made it 9 wins in 9 on Saturday. Kick-off is at 19:45 at the RAW Charging Stadium.
