Match Report: Oxford City Women 4-2 Sholing

Hoops get their revenge in SRWFL.

Oxford City Women kept tabs with the teams at the top of the Southern Regional Women’s Football League with a 4-2 win over Sholing.

The Hoops were impressive throughout against one of their ‘bogey’ teams, who had already gotten the better of Connor Walton’s side already this season.

However, the hoodoo started to vanish within the first ten minutes of the contest after Isobel Baradley nodded City ahead. Emma Donohoe’s inch-perfect cross was whipped towards the back post, where Bradley produced the finishing touch.

Just before the break, Sholing were temporarily reduced to ten players, when their number eight was sin-binned for dissent. That seemed to spur on the girls more and if it wasn’t for the woodwork, the score would’ve been more favourable.

Both Anna O’Leary and Billie Bough-French saw efforts bounce off the crossbar.

Half-Time: Oxford City 1-0 Sholing

After the break, City continued to probe and doubled their lead fifteen minutes after the interval.

Ellie White grabbed the goal after nipping in ahead of the backline and smashing past the goalkeeper.

White wasn’t done there though; she grabbed a second goal just two minutes later. This time Isobel Bradley’s threaded pass found White, who in turn ran through on goal and drilled a shot underneath the ‘keeper and into the net. 3-0.

There was still time for White to get her hat trick. Again, Sholing didn’t learn their lesson and after she ran in on goal, she was tripped inside the box. The referee had no choice but to point to the spot, and White stepped up to cooly tuck away the spot-kick for her third of the match to make it 4-0.

Sholing did make the scoreline look better with two late consolation goals. The first goal came when they broke down the left hand side and a low shot evaded detection to find the net. The second, a penalty perfectly dispatched.

All in all though, a thoroughly impressive result.
