MATCH REPORT | OXFORDSHIRE SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL | OXFORD CITY 5-0 EASINGTON SPORTS

Andrew Gate • March 15, 2023

A youthful Oxford City booked their place in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup Final after a convincing 5-0 victory over Easington Sports.

Two goals each from Jayden Carbon & Gerald Muchechetere and a Niko Nenomen-Millar header secured the Hoops' passage through to the final as City's starlets produced a five-star performance at the RAW Charging Stadium.

Ross Jenkins majorly overhauled the side that had won the previous round against Oxford United. Jenkins handed Alex Grantham & Joe Wilson their first starts of the season in a starting eleven that included eight players that had progressed through City's youth ranks.

There was thirteen players in the squad that have had represented the Hoops at youth level, most notably U16's striker Charlie Bacon, who turned sixteen just days ago.

Torrential rain made conditions difficult for both sides in the contest but City handled the 'zippy' pitch a lot better than their Banbury-based counterparts.

Jayden Carbon and Joe Wilson particularly were a thorn in Easington's side and the duo linked up well in the early stages of the game as the majority of play came down the right hand side. However, City coudln't edge ahead.

Albeit until the 36th minute where Carbon grabbed his and City's first goal of the game. The winger sent a speculative effort towards goal which didn't look like it had enough power to beat the Sports 'keeper, but a mistake between the sticks saw the shot fumbled into the corner of the net.

Half-Time: Oxford City 1-0 Easington Sports

It took until just after the hour mark for City to double their lead. A beautiful through-ball from midfielder Faris Mohammed was inch-perfect for Carbon, who showed a terrific turn of pace to leave his markers for dead and allowing him time to send a shot into the bottom corner.

Furthermore, just five minutes later it was 3-0. The Easington defence was caught sleeping as a City free-kick from the right-wing was floated towards the back post. Substitute Gerald Muchechetere was wide awake and alert to the situation, and he sent a shot into the bottom corner of the net after losing his marker. Game over.

City weren't finished there though. Eight minutes from time Muchechetere had his second with arguably the pick of the goals. He sent a stinging effort into the roof of the net leaving the 'keeper with no chance as the Easington defence seemed to run out of steam.

That looked to be that but there was still time for a fifth goal! Another corner into the box wasn't dealt with by the visitors and Niko Nenomen-Millar rose highest to head into the net, and put the icing on top of the cake!

A great evening from the young Hoops and certainly an encouraging site for the club's future. City will play either Thame United or North Leigh in the final later on in the season. However, attentions turn back to the league on Saturday as City host Cheshunt in Vanarama National League South.
