Oxford City’s first season of Powerchair Football has been a massive success and we would like to thank a number of people who have allowed us to run these fantastic sessions.
Powerchair Football is a unique sport that provides opportunities for people with a high level of impairment to access the game of football. It is the only active team participation sport for people who use electric wheelchairs.
The club has been working alongside the FA and The Wheelchair Football Association (WFA) for sessions every other Sunday and James Gilmore who helped set the Powerchair events up, told us
“It has been great to be involved and you can see how much the players have been enjoying themselves.
We are still in the early stages and will come back after the summer holidays even more determined to make this grow and to enable even more people to get involved.
“We want to thank a few people. Obviously Darren Field and New Home Improvement Group have sponsored us and been big supporters but we also appreciate the hep that our neighbours at OXSRAD have given us as hosts. The coaches - Josh and Alex - have loved every minute and the parents have been so supportive which adds to the feel-good factor that we get at every session.
“This summer break allows us to look at everything, talk to everyone involved and make sure that we come back even bigger and better."
Powerchair Football is for anyone who uses a powered wheelchair or those who have limited movement in a manual wheelchair. The sport is fast-paced, dynamic and very enjoyable to watch.
The unique nature of powerchair football allows all ages, disabilities and both genders to compete together.
