Women’s football in Oxford will join forces this weekend as we celebrate International Women’s Weekend.
First Oxford City as a club will be showing their support on Saturday when we welcome Buxton to the MGroup Stadium, and then the club will be supporting Oxford United Women on Sunday for their game against Exeter City.
City have invited all 350 girls and women players who play and train at the MGroup Stadium each week to be here as the whole club joins together to back the team when the Hoops take on Buxton.
“It will be a great occasion” Aliyah Anthony, Head of Women’s Football told us. “The growth in women’s football has been amazing over the last few years, not just playing but coming along and watching as well. We are very proud to be playing our part and to be at the heart of women’s football in Oxford.
“The Town v Gown game on Tuesday is a great advertisement for the strength of the Women’s game here and then the team have an away game at Selsey on Sunday where they are looking to finish the season strongly, with the Oxon Women’s Cup final to come.”
Sunday will see Oxford United Women’s Team supporting #HerGameToo for an International Women’s Day fixture against Exeter City.
There will be family fun activities, including face painting, inflatable games and glitter tattoos ahead of the 2pm kick off. Plus, there will also be plenty of options for food and drink, including Cameron Brannagan and Simon Eastwood’s ‘Sweet Formation’ ice cream truck. A member of the #HerGameToo campaign team will also be present to share information and answer any questions you may have.
There will also be an opportunity for the young supporters to meet some of the Women's players in a Q&A session. Tickets are available for just £7 for adults and £1 for under 16s. OUFC Men's season ticket holders, NHS workers, and over 60s' tickets cost £3.50.
