REECE FLEET | THEY'RE A GOOD SIDE WITH GOOD EXPERIENCE

The skipper previews Saturday's final home game of the regular season against Havant & Waterlooville.

Ross Jenkins’ free-scoring Oxford City side return to the RAW Charging Stadium this Saturday for the team’s final home fixture of their Vanarama National League South campaign.

The Hoops, who have been victorious in three of their last four games, remain third in the table and will be hoping to strengthen their grip of that coveted position over the next two weeks to potentially guarantee a home play-off semi-final in May.

Ahead of what is yet another pivotal game in the context of City’s season, we spoke to club captain Reece Fleet, who was keen to stress the importance of taking each match as it comes.

Fleet, who captained his side to a comeback 5-1 win over Dover Athletic last weekend, said of the victory, “It was a massive game, a big three points; every game is vital at this time of the season. It was great to get the three points and everyone put in a good performance.”

City’s final two league fixtures pit them against a Havant and Waterlooville side, who, currently in ninth, could still secure a play-off finish, as well as the currently 12th placed Bath City, who proved a stern test when the sides met back in September - holding the Hoops to a 3-3 draw.

Looking ahead to the visit of Havant this Saturday (Oxford City’s family day), Fleet said, “We approach it like we do every game. It’s going to be a tough one, they’re a good side with good experience. They’re fighting for the play-offs as well, but it’ll be good to be at home with hopefully a good crowd to cheer us on and hopefully get the three points.”

On a personal level, it’s been a landmark campaign for the 31-year-old, who saw himself enter Oxford City’s top ten for appearances when he surpassed 354 in early March. Speaking of his own efforts this term, he said, “I think it’s been good. It’s a team game and obviously we’re doing well, and hopefully we can finish as high as possible. In terms of the appearances I’ve made, it’s something I’m proud of and hopefully there are many more to come.”

The Hoops will no doubt be looking to maintain their impressive form to finish the season on a high, and Fleety is confident that complacency won’t set in amongst Ross Jenkins’ men at this crucial stage, “Hopefully we carry that [form] on. We take it a game at a time, we don’t look any further than Saturday. We’re in good form at the moment and confidence is high, but we know with this league it can change so quickly, so everyone’s got to be on it, everyone’s got to be determined to get the three points and no doubt we all will be.”
