Ross Jenkins 'pumped' for St Albans clash

August 12, 2022

Oxford City boss Ross Jenkins is looking forward to Saturday's clash with St Albans as the Hoops look for their first points of the Vanarama National League South season.

The Hoops will be looking to put their opening day defeat to Eastbourne behind them and Jenkins says that training has been positive this week.

"The reaction has been positive." said Jenkins.

"Our result didn't reflect our performance [against Eastbourne] and training has been good throughout the week.

"The boys know their standards but some of the football we played on Saturday was really good."

One of the factors we can't control on Saturday will be the weather. It is forecast to be 35 degrees in St Albans during the game, in what will be a unique challenge for both sides. However, Jenkins says it will be a challenge for both sides to overcome.

"The weather will be an issue for every club. It'll affect everyone really, with whoever is playing in the league. We'll have to deal with it like everyone else but we'll be ok."

The VNLS season is back with a vengeance. Saturday's game with St Albans will be closely followed by a Tuesday night trip to Chippenham Town and Jenkins is looking forward to getting into both.

"We would've loved a Tuesday game after Eastbourne. The boys are eager to play and up their standards, we want to go onto the next game and you want to impress.

"I'm really looking forward to Saturday, I'm pumped for it."
