Ross Jenkins: “We need to make sure the players are prepared; mentally, physically and tactically.”

Oxford City triumphed 1-0 over Welling United on Saturday, but they look to continue their momentum this weekend by returning to the Velocity Stadium to face Havant &  Waterlooville.

Ross Jenkins has been part of the City management staff for the past few seasons, so knows the ins and outs of how the Hoops play. Alongside him is Andy Ballard, who prior to being part of the management team, he was donning the blue and white Hoops, whilst also being captain of the team for a while too. So they both are no stranger to the way that City work, and with their second fixture this weekend following the 1-0 win against Welling, they will be preparing the squad to try and put another 3 points on the board.

“We’re not going to change anything too soon, we’re going to stick to what we know and we’re going to encourage and be right behind the boys, and hopefully get a good result.”

“It’s not a matter of coming in and wiping things clean and starting again. We’ve got a squad which can stick together and work hard.”

The Hoops’ trip to Welling last Saturday saw them pick up their first 3 points of the new calendar year, alongside their first clean sheet since the 1-0 win over Hungerford in early December, so no doubtedly Jenkins, Ballard and the squad will want to use this as some leverage and push on.

“It’s been good so far. Obviously it’s a bit of a blow for David to leave but football is like that”

“Sometimes you are here, one minute you’re there, the next minute you’re gone.”

“The boys understand it, it is football. We have a good relationship with the players; myself, Andy, Fozzy and Wilky. We know the boys well enough to put a good action plan together and move forward.”

City face Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday at the Velocity Stadium. Earlier in the season, the Hoops came away victorious over the Hawks with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Joe Iaciofano and Harvey Bradbury, and no doubt the side will be wanting to do the double over Havant on Saturday.

“We’ve got a few things which we want to add in, which is normal, but we won’t do that straight away.”

“We need to make sure the players are prepared; mentally, physically and tactically.”
