ROSS JENKINS | WE'RE LEARNING FROM EACH GAME WE PLAY

Jenkins pleased with Hoops' progression.

Oxford City manager Ross Jenkins said his side are ‘progressing nicely’ ahead of this weekend’s game against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The manager spoke to www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk on Wednesday, and highlighted the importance of the last few results.

‘We’re definitely learning from each game we play. We’re adapting and learning and tweaking things game to game. We need to make sure we’re consistent with these types of performances though and we need to put in a good display this weekend.’

The Hoops have turned things round after a difficult start, but the manager says that ambitions need to remain balanced.

‘I’m not one to say we’re five unbeaten or this or that. I think I always like to go off the last game because you’re only as good as your last game. We’re still nowhere near where we want to be, but I thought last week was very positive.’

‘I think the league is so unpredictable. All the games we’ve played so far have been so different.’

The team’s clinical performances in the last few have also impressed Jenkins.

‘I think Hartlepool especially, last week, we probably only had another two half chances where we could’ve scored, but we took our opportunities and put them away. Obviously on top of that, scoring goals helps bring the fans in, it brings that feel-good factor to the stadium.’

Looking ahead to Saturday, the manager was full of praise for Dagenham.

‘They’re a good side, we know a couple of their boys from where they’ve been in recent seasons. It’s a tough league and for them to get a few wins under their belt shows they’re a good team. You’ve got to earn your victories in this league and they’ve shown they can do that.’

‘If we stick to what we’re doing and believe in the system and what we’ve been doing, we’ll be fine, but we’ve got to make sure that we know it’s going to be a real battle and it’s a tough game.’

‘It’s still so early in the season, eight games in. I think once we reach Christmas and we’ve played everyone once, we’ll reassess again and make necessary changes.’

Jenkins also spoke about the side’s attitude and mentality so far this year.

‘The team are really embracing where we are. Obviously, we’ve had some things to work around, with the boys working other jobs, but everyone is fully committed, and there’s never anyone moaning.

Whenever anyone walks into Oxford City, you are together, smiley, bubbly. That’s all I can ask really, and the staff have been brilliant in terms of managing and helping with that as well.’

Finally, the manager looked ahead to the fixture schedule up ahead.

‘The Saturday game to the Tuesday game is always a quick turnaround. I think communication is going to be so important over these games, between staff and players. But there’s no excuses. We did it all of last season, so we’ve just got to make sure as a club we’re all synced up and on the same page.’
