Four Goal Walsh Sends City Through

City ease past Willand gracefully. Full time report

Oxford City cruised into the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup this afternoon as Louis Walsh hit four goals on his first start to pave the way for a 6-0 win over Willand Rovers.

Walsh's sensational debut even overshadowed one of the fastest goals in FA Cup history when Zac McEachran scored the opening goal after just 13 seconds, with Lewis Coyle's excellent free kick the pick of the six on a fine afternoon for the Hoops.

Against lower league opposition it helps to score an early goal, but 13 seconds is extreme. That was all it took before McEachran raced to the edge of the box and flashed a powerful effort past visiting keeper George Burton. The perfect start.

That fast start continued after 12 minutes when Walsh netted his first to leave Willand floundering. Josh Ashby was the architect with a superb ball that allowed Jayden Carbon, flying forward from wing-back, to fire in a low cross for Walsh to tap home at the back post. I didn’t just like the goal. I loved it.

The Devon side dug in after the tough opening 20 minutes but after 32 minutes it was game over as the outstanding Carbon twisted and turned and provided a carbon copy pinpoint cross for Walsh to head home from close range to make it 3-0.

City were in complete control with the unplayable McEachran running riot and Alfie Potter close to a fourth before the break as the visitors ran themselves into the ground to try and find a way back into the game - Ash Hewitt in midfield leading by example and covering every crumb of grass and Dorothy up front follow follow following his lead.

However, Devon knows they were miserable at half time and 90 seconds into the second period  it was 4-0 when Walsh latched on to another Ashby killer pass to burst into the box. Willand again  gave chase but Walsh beat the chasers to bury the ball beyond the helpless Burton and ensure that he walked away with the match ball after a sensational debut.

The fifth goal came on 64 and was a peach of a strike as Coyle curled a magnificent free kick into the corner of the net from 25 yards. It could have been even more, Cardo Siddik  going close before Walsh waltzed clear once more, rounded the keeper and rolled the ball home to surely guarantee his place as Player of the Round after 82 one-sided minutes.

Fair play to Willand whose heads never dropped but their FA Cup fate was possibly decided inside 13 seconds today. City move  in to Monday's draw but they also need to use this performance as a kick start for their league season, starting at home to Peterborough Sports on Tuesday night.
