Oxford City Women continued their excellent early- season form with a superb 5-0 win away at Reading this afternoon
Goals from Billie Bough-French, Georgina Tayman and Ellie White and a brace from top scorer Kitty Crouch made it seven points from three games for the Hoops who dominated the game against the Royals.
City did have to survive an early scare when Reading skied one early opportunity and then had an effort disallowed for offside but then took the lead just after the half hour when the excellent Bough-French blasted home a free kick from 25 yards out to make it 1-0.
That opened the game up and Issy Bradley hit the woodwork and White had a shot saved before Crouch made it two goals in two games shortly after the break with captain Tayman volleying home an Emma Donohoe cross soon after to make it 3-0 and make the game safe.
However City didn’t rest on their laurels and when Healy’s drive was only pushed back as far as Crouch she made no mistake to score her second and make it 4-0 before White made it five in the closing stages to send the team joint top of the early table.
Coach Chris Smith said
“It was a massive win. It can be overwhelming to come to a club like Reading but we showed we can more than compete and I felt we controlled the game. In the second half in particular we looked a good side and you can see the confidence and belief that the players have in each other.
"We now have another big game against Woodley in the cup next Sunday so we will train hard, we will take the positives from today, and we will do all we can to keep this good start going.”
