Aaron Williams-Bushell has said that the Hoops have proven themselves in recent weeks and that they are ‘confident’ going into Saturday’s game.
City continued their excellent form with an outstanding performance against promotion-chasing Hartlepool last week, a game which Williams-Bushell made a big impact in after coming off the bench.
Replacing Lewis Coyle, the 23-year-old played a big part in Josh Ashby’s goal which put the side ahead, after he had made excellent progress down the left side, before seeing his blocked shot fall to the onrushing midfielder to sweep home.
‘It’s always nice to play an important role in a match or contribute to a win. The manager’s instructions were clear and they paid off instantly. It’s always good to know you’re trusted, and being given the opportunity to make the difference when we’re trailing is such a good feeling when the tables turn.’
Williams-Bushell and the side will look to pick up a third successive home victory this weekend, but face another tough task against a strong Dagenham & Redbridge team.
The visitors have themselves turned around a poor start to the season, picking up three wins in their last four, including a 1-0 victory against league leaders Barnet.
‘I’m sure it’ll be a tough game, like every other game in this league. But playing at home the boys will always have that confidence that we can get the job done.
'We will make sure to do our homework on them and use that to our advantage to then hopefully come away with the three points.’
Reflecting on the early stages of the season, Williams-Bushell spoke about how results of recent weeks may have changed the perception of the side from other teams in the division.
‘We’ve had a positive start to the season, which is always good considering we came in as the underdogs. We want to show that we’re here for a reason, we aren’t just happy with promotion last year but we want more and the boys know the minimum requirement this year is survival.’
‘The longer the season goes on teams will realise we’re not just here to get rolled over, and we’re already starting to prove that with some of the upsets we’ve caused so far.’
Finally, he spoke about his relationship with City’s summer signing Nya Kirby.
‘I’ve known Nya practically all my life, so having him here is good for the both of us. It definitely helps on the pitch because we already have that understanding of each other, which allows us to combine with minimal communication, it’s just second nature.’
‘He’s been a great addition and his experience playing at a higher level has been great for the boys.’
