In the build-up to Saturday’s match against Solihull Moors, Canice Carroll has said the side will be looking to build upon the performance that saw them come away 4-0 winners against Boreham Wood on Monday.
City climbed out of the relegation zone with that result, and Carroll said the victory was a warning sign to the league.
‘We know we can make a statement in this league and people should respect us. Teams now know we can definitely give them a run for their money. We’ve shown what we’re capable of and now its just about building on that.’
‘The win has done the boys a world of good. I think our performances since the opening day have been really good. I think we probably could have picked up a couple more points than what we have, but it was always going to take us a few games to get used to the league.’
Carroll has played every minute for the Hoops so far this year, and was instrumental as the side picked up their second clean sheet in a row last time out.
‘I think the main thing for us in the last game was that we took our chances, which is what we were doing last year, and the boys were fantastic at that on Monday. The plan is to build on that and keep progressing on Saturday and throughout the season.’
Speaking on the improvements in the defence in recent weeks, which have seen City concede just once in the last three games, Carroll discussed the changes this year.
‘We had a couple of conversations after that opening game, and it was mainly just us knowing that we can’t get away with some of the things we did get away with last year. The boys took that on board and it showed in our play, especially in these last two games.’
‘We were unlucky not to take anything from the Chesterfield game, but I think it showed how good we can be defensively when we’re on our game. Our values and how we set out don’t change week on week, we know how we want to play.’
Solihull currently sit top of the league, and are one of two sides to go unbeaten in the league so far this season, so the Hoops will be looking to change that when they face them this Saturday.
