Oxford City Women head into their first game of the season away at Eastleigh Women this weekend, as they look to start their Southern Regional Women's Football League season with a bang!
The Spitfires, like City, share their stadium with the men’s side. Their Silverlake Stadium seats 3,210, so manager Luke Hancock is looking forward to the experience.
‘It’s going to be a great occasion. It’s a lovely stadium to play in and we’re all looking forward to it.’
Hancock also detailed his optimism about the season ahead.
‘We want to win every game, so we’re going to go in with confidence and hopefully make a good start as we push to get into that top end of the league.
"I think the team cohesion that we’ve got right now is what’s going to drive us through this season. We’ve got to be together’
‘I know the girls are buzzing to get going and we just want to start getting the minutes in the legs now.’
The Hoops finished in sixth place last season, while their opponents were one place above in fifth. The sides took three points off each other last year, with both teams picking up their wins in the respective away game.
The win for City came last September, as the Hoops fought to a narrow 3-2 victory, with goals by Stephanie Ferreira, Karima Elouath and Ellie White. Hancock will be looking to replicate these successes at the weekend.
Hancock also spoke briefly about the sides upcoming FA Cup game against Haddenham, along with their first home league game against Woodley United.
‘The FA Cup is obviously a massive competition, so we’re looking to go as far as we can.’
‘We’d love to see as many people as possible come along to that first home game as well, I think its going to be a really exciting game and we’re going to do our best to win.’
