Versatile defender re-joins on a permanent basis.

Oxford City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of versatile defender Jacob Roddy.

The defender joins on a permanent basis after leaving Charlton Athletic in the summer, but he is no stranger to Hoops supporters after a loan spell at Court Place Farm in the National League last season.

Roddy, who can play as a full-back or centrally in defence, scored his first senior goal for the Hoops in a defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge last season.

The defender becomes Sam Cox's seventh new addition of the summer.

Speaking after signing for City, Jacob said: “I’m feeling good and I’m really excited to start the season now.

“I’m back in with the lads and there’s a few familiar faces so it’s great to see everyone again. There’s a buzz around things and I’m excited.”

Oxford City Manager Sam Cox said: “It’s fantastic to get Jacob in the building.

“He was here last season and he brings a fantastic physical presence to the table. I see him as a leader and he brings a great voice to the group.

“He’s got a fantastic personality and an enthusiasm to learn and improve on his game and he’s shown that enthusiasm when he’s been with us.

“Really happy to get that done and he bolsters our squad that is really taking shape to where we want to be.”

The 6’1″ defender started his career with Southampton, joining the Saints at ten years old.

He progressed through the ranks on the South Coast until the age of 16.

A short-spell with Bradfield College followed after he left St Mary's, but in 2021 he linked up with the Charlton Athletic as part of the Addicks' U21 squad.

From there, Roddy became one of the hottest prospects in the academy system at the Valley and went on to make four senior appearances in the senior team.

A loan spells in the National League South with Weston-Super-Mare followed, before he moved up a division to join Oxford City, making his debut for the Hoops against Dorking Wanderers on New Year's Day.

He scored his first senior goal for Oxford City away at Dagenham & Redbridge last season, and will now look to kick-on after joining the club permanently.
