Match Preview: Oxford City vs Dorking Wanderers

Ethan Gough • December 13, 2021

Oxford City continue their Vanarama National League South campaign on Tuesday evening at the Velocity Stadium against a strong Dorking Wanderers side.

The Hoops come into this fixture off the back of the 1-1 draw with Chippenham on Saturday, which was enough to put City at the top of the table. David Oldfield and his men will certainly want to add another 3 points on the board.

Team News

Oldfield could name an unchanged team to the side that was fielded on Saturday in the home draw against Chippenham. Charlie Rowan is still unavailable for this fixture as he continues to serve his 3-match suspension obtained in the FA Trophy tie with St Albans.

Manager’s Thoughts

David Oldfield has overseen his side go unbeaten in the last 11 games in the league, and will want to extend this run, and not only this but try and pick up all 3 points to keep City at the top of the league going into Christmas.

“We have a huge game against a very difficult side on Tuesday.”

“They have an excellent manager, they’re an excellent club with an excellent journey.”

“There’s a really good unit there, so another massive test for us.”

“We must make sure that we prepare as well as we can and look forward to the challenge.”

Star Player

Jason Prior

The experienced striker is certainly one who knows where the back of the net is and has certainly not lacked the finishing touch throughout his career, and wherever he’s been, goals have followed.

In the earlier days of his career, one of the most notable spells he had was with Bognor Regis where Prior scored 95 goals in 126 games, which is a strike rate to open anyone's eyes. He also had an average goal per game of 0.5 in his stint at Havant & Waterlooville, with the forward scoring 40 times for the Hawks.
