REECE FLEET | IT WAS A FAIR RESULT OVERALL
After a tough battle against Taunton Town on Tuesday evening, Oxford City captain, Reece Fleet, shares his thoughts on the game.
After a tough trip to Somerset mid-week, Oxford City extended their unbeaten start to 2023 with a 1-1 draw away at Taunton Town.
Among side his excellent form, The Hoops captain has become a foundation to the team’s success, as he has led his side to an unbeaten 2023 so far.
He states that it is disappointing to let two points slip away so late on in the game, however City should be happy with their performance as Taunton is a tough place to travel to.
“It was a fair result overall,” Fleet stated.
“We had a very positive first half, playing on the front foot. But we had multiple opportunities that we should’ve taken. We got pinned in our own half, in the second half, and couldn’t really get out.”
Fleet is a vital member of the squad and has been at the club for more than a decade, since 2011. Alongside his football, working full-time can take its toll on part-time players, especially with the mid-week journey to Taunton.
He described how he balances work life and his footballing career. He is one of the players at Oxford City that has a full-time job, whilst playing football on the side.
“Working full time and playing is tough, but everyone has to do it, so we crack on.”
The Hoops now look ahead to their challenging match against Dartford on Saturday, where both teams will be eager to walk away with 3 points, to compete for a top three finish at the end of the season.
