Ross Jenkins has said that he’s looking for members of his squad to stand up and be counted in the final ten matches of the season and continue to ‘work for the badge’.
The City Manager was speaking before Saturday’s home fixture against Aldershot Town, which is the start of the Hoops’ last ten matches of the 23/24 season.
Going into the fixture, City find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Vanarama National League with an eleven-point gap between the Hoops and York City (who sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference).
However, Jenkins has re-iterated that anything less than 100% won’t be tolerated, as City look to finish the season strongly regardless of their league finish.
“We’ve got points to play for and so has everyone else.” Said Jenkins.
“It’s obviously going to be a challenge and a difficult task (to survive), but we knew that before we had even kicked a ball in pre-season.
“We knew we’d have to weather a lot and we knew we had a lot on our plate, but we’ve shown glimpses of what we can do, but it’s consistency that’s needed at this level.
“Some games we’ve been on it, and in some games we haven’t.
“It’s tough to go through the season like that, but we’ve got enough in our bodies and our legs to kick on in the next ten games and give as much as we can for the fans, and finish the season on a good note, whatever that may be.
“I think it’s important that everyone gives 100%. If not, it’ll get noticed. Anything less won’t be tolerated.”
He continued: “The boys know that. The standards need to stay high and if they drop then changes will be made.
“We’re entering the part of the season where characters and attitudes stand out.
“We need the boys to really take the game to people. We really need to get a hold of the game and be competitive, strong & aggressive and see the season through.
“Whatever the results are, it’s important we show what we’re about.
“We need to show our character, because if you don’t, you can see it a mile off and that won’t be tolerated.
“You’ve got to work hard for the badge, and so far this season the boys have put in a big shift.
“We’ve been unlucky with some results and with some decisions that have cost us some points.
“However, we don’t have VAR, and if we did… I probably wouldn’t be happy then either!”
