Oxford City Manager Sam Cox has said that he’s ready for his first competitive match. However he’s aware of the challenge that opponents Marine can bring.
The Hoops travel to Marine on the first day of the National League North season and it’s the first time in seven years that City will have played in the northern section of step 2.
Cox has told www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk that he's confident in his squad, but aware of the dangers that Marine pose:
“I’m feeling good, feeling confident," Cox said.
"The players are really focused and we’ve had a good working week. Spirits are high and we’re looking forward to this day. It's been a long time coming."
Like City, Marine are one of the division's new boys after winning promotion against the odds at runaway favourites Macclesfield FC last season.
Nevertheless, Cox is well aware of the quality they pose and has said that his side need to be at their best to record a positive start to the season.
“They’re a team that have a lot of spirit and endeavour. We know we have to match that first and foremost if we want any chance of earning three points.
“They’ve got spirit in abundance, high energy and they work very hard in and out of possession.
“We know the threats they possess and we’re going to have to match that.
"If we do that, that gives us the best chance to let our footballing do the talking.
"We know the challenge that we’ve got ahead of us to make sure we’re fully prepared."
